Obituary

Mary Ann Alix, 79, passed peacefully from this life Sunday, September 1, 2024. She was born October 26, 1944, in Gorman, Texas to Herman J. Hardin and Opal Pearl Eads Hardin.

Mary was raised in De Leon and graduated from De Leon High School, Class of 1963. She was the head cashier and served in a management role for Lawrence Brothers IGA in De Leon for over twenty years. Mary loved her career and coworkers. She enjoyed many hobbies including listening to country music, bluegrass, and gospel. Many of her fondest memories were from Hardin music gatherings at the family homeplace. Mary was incredibly proud of her three sons and considered her greatest accomplishment to be raising them while living all over the United States and in two foreign countries while their dad served in the Air Force. She was a stern but loving mother who always put her family first. Mary adored her grandchildren, and she loved attending as many of their activities as possible, but most especially loved attending their baseball and softball games. She was a selfless mother, a doting grandma, a loving sister and aunt, and a special neighbor and friend to many. She will be missed beyond measure by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Alix and wife, Misty, and Bryan Alix and wife, Ana; grandchildren, Maranda Alix, Jaden Alix, Emily Alix, Aaron Alix, London Swango, Britton Swango, Cambri Swango, Sutton Swango, Andie Swango, and Bailey Swango; four great grandchildren; sister Linda Sue Flora; numerous nieces, nephews; and other extended family. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Opal Hardin; son, Faron Alix, sister, Judy D. Hardin; and brother, Herman R. Hardin.

Funeral services celebrating Mary's life were held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joe Baptist Church with Brother Matt Morton officiating. Interment followed in Oliver Springs Cemetery.
