Mary Geneva
Fair
Aug 16, 1917 — Feb 20, 2020
Mary Geneva Fair, 102, passed away February 20, 2020, in San Antonio. She was born August 16, 1917, in Comanche County, Texas, to Sylvera Clark Bloyd and Almira Adieline Kee Bloyd. Mary married Stanley Garland Fair January 4, 1942, in Comanche County.
Mary grew up on the family farm north of De Leon on the Leon River where their family worked tirelessly to provide for their family. Her mother passed away when she was only five years old. Mary graduated from Comyn High School. She enjoyed playing basketball and her high school team advanced to the state championship tournament. She was employed for several hotels over the years. After she married Garland, she worked in Ft. Worth for the Carpenter Paper Company while he was serving in the war. During his service, they were able to travel all over the country.
She enjoyed many hobbies including quilting, sewing, crocheting caps and blankets, reading and studying the Bible. She was a founding member of the Fair Cottage Ministry. In recent years, she made many caps and blankets which she donated to their family ministry organization and she was awarded the National Jefferson Award for her commitment and selflessness in service to others. Mary believed that the two groups of people who deserved help in the world were children and the elderly. She grew up in a generation that expected people who were able to work to work, and to help those who were not able to do for themselves. Mary loved gifting her family members for Christmas and birthdays. She was always putting others first. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving Mary are her son, Jerry Stanley Fair and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Will Fair and wife, Karen, and their children, Colton, Kayla and Jenna; Cody Fair and wife, Crystal, and their son, Coulter; and Shanda Morrison and husband, Ricky; sister, Laura May Court; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Garland Fair in 1972; daughter and son-in-law, Judy Ann and Ricky Hanifan; and numerous siblings.
Funeral services celebrating Mary's life were held Sunday, February 23, 2020, at the funeral home with Brother Jackie Auvenshine officiating. Mary was laid to rest in De Leon Cemetery beside her husband, Garland. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Fair Cottage Ministry at 3820 Fest Road, San Antonio, Texas 78264.
