Mary Jo Irvin Burlison, 90, of De Leon, went home to her Lord and Savior Thursday, August 18, 2016, with her family by her side. She was born August 30, 1925, in De Leon, to William J. Irvin and Lillie Pearl Fortune Irvin.
Mary Jo was a member of First United Methodist Church of De Leon. She grew up in De Leon and attended Texas Woman's University in Denton after high school. She married Tommy Burlison September 14, 1944, in De Leon. She and Tommy had two sons, Gary and Daniel. Tommy and Mary Jo lived many places throughout their lives before finally settling back home in De Leon. She had many hobbies including reading, working crossword puzzles and sewing. She was a talented seamstress and made a lot of her own clothing. Mary Jo was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, De Leon Chapter #693. She was a devoted and loving homemaker for her family and a wonderful friend to so many. She will be missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Burlison and wife, Carolyn; daughter-in-law, Linda Burlison; grandchildren, Holly Carl and husband, Mark, Sanna Caffin and husband, Joe, Michael Burlison, Clint Burlison, and Julie Briscoe and husband, Shelby; great-grandchildren, Kara Buffington, Sarah Ware, Bryan Caffin, Cassidy Caffin, Emily Burlison, Adam Burlison, Bailey Carl and Brooklyn Carl; great-great grandchildren, Liam Ware and Bennett Briscoe; and other extended family. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Burlison; parents, Bill and Pearl Irvin; and son, Gary Burlison.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 20, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Brother Kenneth Wilson officiating. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Burlison, Clint Burlison, Lanny Butler, Adam Burlison, Wesley Mathis and Joe Caffin. Honorary pallbearers were Connie Welch, Roy Dell Freeman, Kenneth Durham, Col. Neal McKinney and Bud McKinney.
