Obituary

Mary Virginia Newcomb, 88, of De Leon, passed from this life Sunday, September 12, 2021. She was born March 7, 1933, in Crab Orchard, Tennessee, to Ira Rymer and Willie Burke Baker Rymer. She married Orvelle Newcomb August 2, 1950.

Virginia was a longtime devoted member of First Christian Church of De Leon. She loved her church and her church family. She was a loving homemaker for her family. Virginia enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life but especially enjoyed quilting, researching family genealogy, and spending time with her family. She loved singing and playing the guitar. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy in life, and she cherished each of them. Virginia was a selfless wife, devoted mother, doting grandmother, and special friend to many. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, William Ira Newcomb; grandchildren, Jenny Lynn Williams, Jessica Leigh Carnes and Sarah Nicole Pledger; great-grandchildren, Trista, Cammy, Parker, Colby and Chloe; brothers, Kenneth Rymer and Robert Rymer; sisters, Carol Estes and Linda Brookhart; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Virginia has been reunited with her husband, Orville; son, Gerald Lynn Newcomb; daughter, Judy Gayle Carnes; parents, Ira and Willie Rymer; and brothers, W.T. Rymer and Harold Rymer.

Virginia was laid to rest in Pleasant Valley Cemetery near May in a private ceremony.
