Maxcine Vaughn, 94, of Brownwood and formerly of De Leon, went home to her Lord and Savior January 1, 2017.
She was born at home in De Leon January 21, 1922 to George Herd Gilder and Rhoda (George) Gilder. Maxcine married Marshall Vaughn on July 6, 1946.
Maxcine was raised in De Leon and she and Marshall moved to West Texas in the early 1950's where they raised their children. They later settled in Brownwood where they eventually retired. She was a long standing member of Brownwood First Baptist Church. Maxcine was a loving and devoted homemaker for her family. Outside the home, she worked for Bassett Feed Store, Farmers and Merchants Bank, Texas Youth Commission as a Dietician, and in 1972 she became the Director of Food Services for the Texas Youth Commission where she finally retired in 1985. Maxcine loved to garden, work in her yard, sew and bake. Her family was first and foremost in her life. She was a beautiful Christian woman and loved to serve others. She was always a lady, sweet natured and kind to everyone. She will be missed immeasurably by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her loving children, George Vaughn and wife, Charlotte R., and Mary Day; grandsons, Charles Vaughn and Michael Vaughn; great-grandchild, Maci Cranfill; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
Maxcine was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Vaughn; parents, George and Rhoda Gilder; sisters, Jean Kirk, Jewel Lee, Doris Dupriest, Foncille Roling; and son-in-law, Bob Day.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Dr. Rodney McGlothlin officiating. Maxcine was laid to rest next to her husband in De Leon Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Stanley Kirk, Bob Wall, Charles Kirk and Jim Mohon.
