Obituary

Merle Dean Young Wilkins, 66, of De Leon, peacefully passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015, following a courageous battle against cancer.

She was born August 3, 1949, in Monahans, Texas, to Clayton and Mary Sherrill Young.

Merle retired after many years of dedicated service to community and public causes. She served in multiple capacities during her career. She served as Mayor of Kyle, Texas, for three years, as well as a volunteer firefighter for the community of Kyle. She was always devoted to helping others and would offer her time to community events that would benefit those in need. Her most recent position was helping to prepare food at the De Leon Senior Citizen Center, a cause that was dear to her heart.

Merle was extremely outgoing and likable. She welcomed everyone with a cheerful smile and friendly demeanor. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, shopping, travelling, and spending time with her family and many friends. She impacted many lives during her sixty-six years on this earth and will be missed beyond measure by all who knew her.


She is survived by her three sons, David Potter and wife, Kim, Levi D. Wilkins, and Chuck Wilkins and wife, Robyn; mother, Mary Young; sister, Terry Wofford and husband, Jim Bob; brother, Billy Ray Young; grandchildren, Dalton Wilkins and Isabella Wilkins; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Merle has gone home to join her father, Clayton Young; and brother, Clayton G. Young.

In honor of Merle's wishes, a celebration of life memorial service was held Saturday, August 15, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home.
