Myrtle West Kimmell went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, March 12, 2015, with her family by her side. She had made her home at the De Leon Nursing Home since 2013. She was 100 years young!
She was born May 2, 1914, in the Robinson Springs Community to Jim and Bell West. She married James Alvis Kimmell in 1933. Myrtle and Alvis had four sons: Dane, Darrell, Paul and Frank. She had eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Myrtle enjoyed being a homemaker, raising her boys and growing a large garden every year. She worked 14 years for peanut mills in De Leon and Gorman. She also served one year as the City Judge in De Leon. In August 2014, she was invited and served as the Grand Marshall for the 100th anniversary of the De Leon Peach and Melon Festival Parade.
She was an active member of Fair Haven Baptist Church of De Leon. She loved to sing hymns and could always be counted on to bring a large quantity of food to church suppers and other social gatherings. Myrtle enjoyed spending time with her large family, playing 42, dancing and fishing. She always saw the good in everyone, was devoted to helping all see the right path to follow in life and will be missed beyond measure by all who knew her.
Surviving Myrtle are three of her sons: Darrell Kimmell and his wife, Margaret, of De Leon, Texas; Paul Kimmell of Marble Falls, Texas; and Frank Kimmell and his wife, Sandra, of Granbury, Texas; seven of her grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvis Kimmell; her oldest son, Dane Kimmell of Hemet, California; her grandson, Johnny Kimmell of De Leon, Texas; and her great-grandson, Cory Kimmell of De Leon, Texas. She is also preceded in death by her five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Fair Haven Baptist Church in De Leon with Brother Kenneth Wilson officiating. Interment followed in the De Leon Cemetery.
