Norman Goates, 65, of San Angelo and formerly of De Leon, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 28, 1949, in Gorman, Texas, to Roy Neal Goates and Eula Mae James Goates. He married Delma Moreno December 5, 1974, in Comanche.
Norman graduated from De Leon High School. He lived in the De Leon community most all of his life until he and Delma moved to San Angelo. He retired as a truck driver in the agriculture industry. Norman was a Baptist. He enjoyed collecting cars and working on old trucks. One of his most cherished activities was visiting with his buddies at the local coffee shop. He loved his family dearly and was especially proud of his four grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Delma Goates; daughter, Kristi Donohoe and husband, John; grandchildren, Alex Donohoe, Madailein Donohoe, Zachary Donohoe and James Donohoe; sisters, Maedell Vinson and Olivia Fields and husband, Maurice; brother, A.C. Goates and wife, Ruth; brother in law, Ray Moreno; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Norman has gone home to join his parents; and brother, Louie Goates.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery. Brother Kenneth Wilson officiated the services. Serving as pallbearers were Todd Griffin, Jeff McGinnis, Shane Fields, Brian Dirickson, Collin Jacobs and Rodney Goates. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Moreno, Ruiz Moreno, Bobby McGinnis and Sandy Sanders.
