Olive Winters "O.W." Buchan Kinchen , 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, May 7, 2014. She was born March 21, 1918, in De Leon, Texas, to Ottis McCoy Buchan and Lillian Terry Buchan.


Olive attended North Elementary School in De Leon and graduated from De Leon High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cisco. She retired as a dorm supervisor from Cisco Jr. College after 16 years. Olive was very active in community organizations and social clubs in her earlier years. She was highly involved in the Garden Club, Rebekah Lodge and bridge club when she lived in Weed, California. When she resided in Amarillo, she served on the Civil Air Patrol for 12 years, achieving the grade of Captain. Once she settled in Cisco, she joined local bridge clubs and stayed active in many community events. When she retired, she moved from Cisco to San Antonio in 2007 and lived in the Waterford on Huebner Retirement Community near her son and his family. She was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her son, Michael Ray Kinchen of San Antonio; grandchildren, Kerry Ray Kinchen and wife, Laura, and Kevin Leroy Kinchen and wife, Julia; great grandchildren, Isaiah Michael Kinchen, Noah Ray Kinchen, Katrina Louise Kinchen and Ruby Ann Kinchen; nephews, Clifford Ash and wife, Shirley, and Joe Kinchen Moore; and other extended family. Olive was preceded by her husband, Claude Leroy Kinchen, Jr.

Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in De Leon Cemetery. Pastor Kerry Kinchen officiated the service.
