Obituary

Oweda Mae Terry, 79, of Anson, passed away August 4, 2017, in Abilene, with her family by her side. She was born September 6, 1937, in Carnegie, Oklahoma, to Orville Smith and Alice Secrist Smith. She married Wayne Terry July 14, 1979, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Oweda was an active member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Abilene where she loved singing in the church choir. She was a dedicated 5th grade school teacher in Carnegie School District, Oklahoma, for over thirty years. She loved being a teacher and the opportunity it provided her to make a positive impact on the lives of many children. Oweda enjoyed music and teaching dance to young girls. She was active for many years in the Mothers' Club, served as President of the Rotary Club of Carnegie, and served as President of the USAO College Alumni Organization in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Oweda was always active in serving her community however she could. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and neighbor. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Terry; sons, Keith Terry and wife, April; daughter, Ta'ah Loven; grandchildren, Kandice Kelly, Joshua Davis and wife, Ronna, Tanner Kelly and wife, Jana, Maegan Davis, Eli Terry and Emma Loven; great-grandchildren, Rocklyn Kelly, October Kelly, Blakely Davis and Blayne Davis; sister, Coleta Shaw; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Oweda was preceded in death by her children, Kim Davis, Daniel Kelly and Todd Kelly; parents, Orville and Alice Smith; brother, J.B. Smith; and sister, Zelpha Byrd.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 13, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at De Leon First United Methodist Church with Pastor John Woodard officiating. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery.
