Peggy L.
Mitchell
Jul 30, 1938 — Jun 10, 2018
Peggy Lavoyce Otwell Mitchell went quietly and peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, June 10, 2018 surrounded by her three daughters who loved her dearly. She followed her loving husband, Don Mitchell into the Pearly Gates of their God only ten days later after her short illness. Born to James (Coy) Otwell and Alene Pilcher Otwell on July 30, 1938, Peggy lived most of her life in De Leon, Texas. She was the glue that held the family together, the peacemaker, the wise and knowledgeable counselor, the servant with a heart of gold and the one who greeted everyone full of love and hospitality. She took care of us all.
Peggy and Don met at a young age in school and began their lifelong marriage on November 17, 1956 at the First United Methodist Church in De Leon, Texas. They had three daughters, Cathy and Connie (the twins), and Kelly. They lived in the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex for several years before returning to De Leon in 1970. Peggy enjoyed being in the workplace in administrative roles and she and Don owned and ran several businesses together over the years.
Peggy's love was in her faith and the God she loved. She and Don always enjoyed helping others in many ways mentoring and caring for those that the Lord led their way. She and Don loved seeing to their family. They cared for her parents, Don's parents, and loved playing with and keeping all eleven grandkids and (as of today), twelve great-grandkids and counting. Family, get-togethers and reunions were always a high priority. She loved having her family around her. She and Don started Two or More Coffeehouse in De Leon in their retirement. They enjoyed loving on people and the main goal was for God's love to be shared there.
Peggy enjoyed a large and growing family. She is survived by her three daughters, Cathy Benson and husband, Bill, Connie Parker and husband, Craig, and Kelly Smith and husband, Craig; grandchildren, Cari Benson, Brett Shelly and husband, Joe, Mitchell Benson and wife, Shelby, Brook Benson, Zachary Benson, Mark McElroy Jr., Crissy Zak, Russell McElroy and wife, Sabrina, Dustin Smith and wife, Erin, Kimberly Cantrell and husband, Nic, and Kevin Smith and wife, Molly; great-grandchildren, Brayden Garza and Madyson Zak, Payton, Preslie and Marissa McElroy, Aubrey Smith and Jaxon Cantrell, Revis and Rowan Smith, Ruby and Beau Smith, and Kye Benson; nephews, Rick Bullock and Barbara, and David Bullock and Brooke and their families; and other extended family.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Don Mitchell; and her loving parents, Alene and Coy Otwell.
Don and Peggy's greatest gift to their family was their daily prayers over all the family and extended family. We will miss them greatly, but we know they are rejoicing with their Savior Jesus Christ and enjoying each other and the many family members who preceded them into the heavenly kingdom.
The Mitchell family will receive friends Friday, June 15th, from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A celebration of Peggy's was held Saturday, June 16, at 10:30 a.m. at De Leon First United Methodist Church with Pastor John Woodard officiating. Interment was held prior to the service in De Leon Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, De Leon, Texas, or the charity of your choice in memory of Peggy.
