Polly Ann
Schuman
May 23, 1934 — Dec 13, 2022
Polly Ann Murphy Schuman, 88 years old, was born May 23, 1934, to J.H. Murphy and Louise Murphy. Polly was raised in Dumas, Texas. She married Bobby Charles Schuman (a De Leon native) on January 29, 1953. They had five children and raised their family here in De Leon.
Her firstborn, Louann Schuman Ballenger, preceded her in death in 2013. Her second born, Sally Schuman Mayfield, also preceded her in death in 2006. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Charles Schuman; her son, Bobby Lane Schuman (Donna); and daughters, Marcia Schuman Hight (Beth) and Liz Schuman Melvick (Steve). Polly and Bobby have been dearly loved and treasured by a large family including their 5 children, 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Polly attended SMU and TCU before trading her educational pursuit for full time devotion to her husband and family. Polly was a stay-at-home mom, steadfastly raising her children, and faithfully attending to the needs of her family and her home. Polly and Bobby have been members of the First United Methodist Church for 66 years. They made it a priority for their family to be well rooted and established in the Christian faith. When the children were entering High School, Polly spent time as a substitute teacher in the De Leon School system and was lovingly nicknamed "Coach Polly" by her students.
Funeral services celebrating Polly's life were held Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at De Leon First United Methodist Church with Pastor Kaiya Kershaw and Pastor Varence Dupre officiating. Interment followed in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Brad Ballenger, Casey Ballenger, Toby Hight, Bobby J Schuman, Ashton Schuman, Wendell Ryan Schuman and Kevin Mayfield. Honorary pallbearers were David McMurry, Jim Ball, Roy Lee Mayfield, Steve Melvick and Dale Funk.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of De Leon, in memory of Polly.
