Ardith Ray Stone, 82, peacefully passed from this life on Monday, January 16, 2023.  Ray was born on February 26, 1940, to Leona and Gloy P. Stone in Groesbeck, Texas.  He graduated from Desdemona High School, and later married Nettie Lou Jones on April 22, 1961.

In his early years, Ray was a heavy equipment operator and later became a foreman at Comanche Peak in Glen Rose, Texas.  After retiring from there, he opened an auto parts store in De Leon.  After selling Casey's Auto he returned to his roots and went back to operating heavy equipment for which he was known as being one of the best at what he did.  Ray was an avid sports fan, and rarely missed an opportunity to watch the Bearcats, Cowboys, Rangers, and Mavericks.  He was also an animal lover as well as most anything outside including fishing and hunting.  In his youth, he was a bull rider and golden glove boxer and was offered a scholarship to Tarleton State University for boxing.

Ray is survived by his wife Nettie; three sons, Shane Stone (Kelly), Allen Stone (Chris Ann), and Casey Stone (Amber).  Ray had twelve grandchildren: Makenzie Akers, Jaxon Stone, Arron Stone, Ashley House, Ashley Saunders, Haylee Ratliff, Payton Stone, Landen Stone, Audree Leicht, Callie Leicht, Chris Morris and Whitney Morris; as well as twelve great grandchildren.  He is also survived by two siblings, Joann Davis and David Stone.  Ray was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Tommy and Robert Stone.  Ray will be deeply missed by all who love him.

Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in Comyn Cemetery with Pastor Mike Fritscher officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the De Leon Bearcat Boosters Club, in memory of Ray.
