Richard Dee "Dickie Dee" Mohon, 73, a lifelong resident of De Leon, peacefully passed from this life Thursday, January 11, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born November 2, 1950, in Dublin, Texas to Tommie Dee Mohon and Mae Isabelle Roberts Mohon. Dickie Dee married his loving wife of thirty-five years, Kelley Lynne Hope, on June 15, 1989.
Dickie Dee graduated from De Leon High School Class of 1970. He was a proud De Leon Bearcat and has always supported the school however he was able. He was the owner and operator of the Pecan House for many decades, ran his used equipment yard, and offered dirt work services. He worked his entire life building his businesses and enjoyed the many friendships he made along the way. Dickie Dee loved cattle ranching and loved to be out tending to them as much as possible. He was always a hard worker, a loyal friend, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a special brother and uncle, and a dependable neighbor. He will be missed deeply by the De Leon community, his many friends, and his loving family.
He is survived by his wife, Kelley Mohon; son, Jason Richard Mohon and wife, Kaila; grandchildren, Kandyce Mohon, Rylan Mohon, and Brendan Mohon; sister, Sue Hardin and husband, Jimmy; brother-in-law, Jim Carr; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and many dear friends. Dickie Dee was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Tommie Carr and Cindy Mohon; and special cousin, C.L. Mohon and wife Nell Rose.
Funeral services celebrating Dickie Dee's life were held Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at De Leon First Baptist Church with Rev. John Crow officiating and special friend Brad Bettis assisting. Interment followed in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Rickey Gooden, Jeff Loudermilk, David Abbey, Daniel Hardin, Dusty Hardin, David Crow, Danny Anderson, Orin Kern, and Brendan Mohon. Honorary pallbearers were David Gardner, Eddie Hight, Brad Koonce, Scotty Koonce, Neil Singleton, Ernie Escamilla, Randy Barnes, Mike Huddleston, and Bill Wilkerson.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Foster's Home for Children (1779 N. Graham Street, Stephenville, Texas 76401), the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Association, in remembrance of Richard Mohon.
