Robert Murray
Hodges
Mar 14, 1932 — Mar 23, 2020
Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, March 29, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. in De Leon Cemetery.
Due to the current COVID-19 regulations on group gatherings, we kindly ask that any friends planning to attend Robert's graveside service respectfully stand at least 30 feet from the tent. Also, please do not gather in groups larger than 10 people. The tent seating will be reserved for immediate family only. We are saddened that we cannot currently allow friends to pay their respects to the Hodges family with a traditional visitation; however, they know just how much the De Leon community loved their dad, granddad, and brother. The family appreciates your understanding of the graveside safety regulations and of course is thankful for your continued prayers and kind thoughts during this difficult time.
Robert Murray Hodges, 88, went home to his Lord and Savior Monday, March 23, 2020. He was born March 14, 1932, in DeLeon, Texas to Clyde Carlton Hodges and Selma Fay Sides Hodges.
Robert lived in the De Leon community his entire life. He graduated from Comyn High School and then was drafted into the United States Army. He was awarded the Korean Service Metal, Bronze Star Metal, and National Defense Service Metal for his bravery and selflessness. After his honorable discharge, Robert returned to De Leon and began farming peanuts.
In his recent years, he was the friendly face you would find often greeting customers at Farley Farm Supply. He was always helpful to the customers, many who were his dear friends. Robert always grew a large garden. He would grow enough produce to feed his extended family and often share with friends. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid De Leon Bearcat supporter and fan. Robert's grandkids meant the world to him. He treasured his time spent with each of them, often taking a ride to check their peanut crop and to give them helpful advice. Robert was a loving father and a very special grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving Robert are his four sons, James Hodges of De Leon, John Hodges and wife, Kay, of De Leon, Ted Hodges of De Leon, and Andrew Hodges and wife, Stephanie, of Waco; daughter, Roberta Hodges of Ft. Worth; brothers, John D. Hodges and Terry Hodges; sisters, Elizabeth Sharp and Liz Montague; and a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren and other extended family.
Robert was preceded in death by Daryleen Hodges; son, William Wyatt Hodges; parents, Clyde and Selma Hodges; brothers, Wayland Hodges, Talmage Hodges, Glen Hodges, and Bob Hodges.
