Shirley Harrison, 81, of De Leon, passed away Friday, August 25, 2017, with her loving family by her side.
She was born October 7, 1935, in Chicota, Texas to Rupert Leon Reeves and Freida Christine Fowler Reeves. Shirley married Vernon Aubry Harrison, Sr. November 29, 1963 in Maple, Texas.
Shirley and Vernon moved from Phoenix, Arizona to De Leon in 1965. Shirley was a beautician and owned a shop in Comanche. She was employed as a CNA for many years. She loved being a nurse's aide and the opportunity it provided her to help others. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, hunting for rocks, and caring for her beloved animals. She was also an excellent cook. She loved getting together with her family as often as possible. She would do everything in her power to help anyone in need. Shirley loved her family. She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. She was the perfect Nana to her grandchildren. Shirley will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Vernon Aubry Harrison, Jr. and wife, Susan; daughters, Verne' Harrison and Arminda Harrison; grandchildren, Shelbey Lynn Harrison and Aubrey Michelle Harrison; brother, Jack Reeves and wife, JoAnn; sisters, Dorthy Davis and Joan Pearcey; and sister-in-law, Glenna Dawn Reeves; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. Shirley was preceded by her husband, Vernon; parents, Rupert and Freida Reeves; brother, James Reeves; and sister, Bungie Connor.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Minister David Skinner officiating. Graveside services followed in Downing Cemetery.
