Toby Gayle
Mahan
Sep 18, 1953 — Jul 3, 2023
Toby Gayle Mahan, 69, a lifelong resident of De Leon, passed from this life Monday, July 3, 2023, with his loving family by his side. He was born September 18, 1953, in Gorman, Texas to James Gayle Mahan and Hannah Lou Brumbelow Mahan. Toby married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca Morris, June 15, 1973. Toby and Becky just celebrated fifty years of marriage, wonderful memories, and love.
Toby was raised in De Leon and graduated with the De Leon Bearcats class of 1972. He then attended and graduated from Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of Science. His entire adult life, Toby was a farmer and rancher. He farmed peanuts and raised cattle. He was also employed by FMC for twenty-three years as a machinist and retired to his favorite role as "Pop". He was always involved in community events and served on the De Leon Hospital Board, De Leon Peach and Melon Festival Committee, De Leon Livestock Association where he chaired as President, and the Comanche County Livestock Association. Toby enjoyed many hobbies but especially loved sports. He was a faithful Texas Rangers baseball fan and loved any sport his grandkids were active in. He also cherished his time spent with his family stock showing over the years. Toby loved spending his time outdoors. He was meticulous about his yard and always had it looking beautiful. Of all his pastimes, being "Pop" was his favorite. He loved to attend all his grandkid's events and would eagerly follow them from one activity to the next. There was nothing in life that he loved more than supporting and encouraging them. Toby was a devoted husband to Becky, an involved and loving father to his two sons, an engaged and encouraging "Pop" to his grandchildren, a loving brother and uncle, and a loyal friend to many. He and Becky are long time members of St. Joe Baptist Church and Toby, above all else, was a faithful believer in his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Becky; sons, Joshua Mahan and wife, Carol, and Ryan Mahan and wife, Jillian; grandchildren, Avery Mahan, Gage Mahan, Gunner Mahan, Rhett Mahan and Rylan Mahan; brothers, Jimmy Mahan and wife, Karen, Charles "Buzzy" Mahan and wife, Corina, and Joey Mahan and wife, Ronda; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Toby has been reunited with his parents, James Mahan and Hannah Lou Mahan Jones; brother, John Mark Mahan; and parents-in-law, W.T. and Frankie Morris.
Funeral services celebrating Toby's life were held Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joe Baptist Church with Brother Matt Morton and Clent Rawlinson officiating. Graveside committal followed in Oliver Springs Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Scotty Koonce, Larry Don Womack, Toby Hare, Brian Plaster, Gerald Lewis, and Tommy Cleere.
