Obituary

Vonnie "Coon" Guthery, 83, of Desdemona, went home to her Lord and Savior Sunday, January 14, 2018. She was born August 18, 1934 in Victor, Texas to Major J. Keith and Mary Ethel Partain Keith. Vonnie married C.M. "Pug" Guthery December 23, 1950.

Vonnie lived in the Desdemona area most all of her life and was a longtime member of Desdemona First Baptist Church. She was a devoted and loving homemaker for her family. Vonnie loved researching the history of the Desdemona oil boom and collected a large variety of oil boom memorabilia over the years. She always talked about opening a museum in hog town to display the history of the oil boom days. Vonnie also dedicated a lot of her time to the Desdemona Community Center when she was able. She enjoyed writing news articles about events and happenings in Desdemona and reporting them to local newspapers. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor and will be missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by her husband, C.M. "Pug" Guthery; daughters, Karen Fair and Belinda Webb; grandchildren, Holly Guthery, Angela Powledge, Sonja Hornback and husband, Lee, and Kandice Cogburn and husband, Donal; great-grandchildren, Lorin Eaves, Colin Garcia, Kaley Garcia, Lane Powledge, Jade Guthery, Bruce Cogburn, Taiah Cogburn and Justin Hornback; brother, Bernard Keith and wife, Ann; numerous niece and nephews; and other extended family.
