Wayne Houston, 89, passed peacefully from this life Sunday, October 6, 2024, at De Leon Nursing and Rehab. Wayne was born November 22, 1934, in Eagle Pass, Texas to Mearion Herbert Houston Sr. and Alice Buelah Jones Houston. He was raised in Zephyr, Texas and graduated from Zephyr High School.

Wayne married Kathleen Jane Bynum and they shared a loving marriage of sixty-seven years. He was employed with Howell Instruments in the maintenance department for many years and ultimately retired from there. Wayne was a man of many talents. He was a skilled carpenter and could build the most beautiful wooden items. He also enjoyed working on small engines, often repairing lawn mowers and tinkering with other small mechanics. Wayne was self-taught in taxidermy, loved to fish, and work puzzles. Wayne always had an incredible garden and orchard. So many people were blessed by his hard work by reaping the harvest year after year. He had an engaging sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. Wayne loved his family dearly and was always his happiest while spending time with them. He was a devoted husband and father, loving grandfather, and special friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving Wayne are his son, David Houston (Debbie); grandsons, John Houston (Melissa) and their daughter AnnaLee Houston; and Jason Houston; numerous grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2020; and his parents; and son, Chip Houston.

Graveside funeral services celebrating Wayne's life were held Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Burleson Memorial Cemetery, Burleson, Texas, with Jim Ater officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to A Living Tribute at https://www.alivingtribute.org, in memory of Wayne.
