Wesley Edward Mathis, 73, of De Leon, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019, in Ft. Worth. He was born July 24, 1946, in Gorman, Texas to James Jewel Mathis and Ruby Lee Underhill Mathis. Wesley married his loving wife of fifty four years, Darlene Gregg, on May 31, 1965, in De Leon.

Wesley lived his entire life in Comanche County. He was self-employed as a farmer and rancher most all of his life. He enjoyed many hobbies including raising and showing hogs, photography and traveling. Wesley loved going for coffee in the morning at the café where he spent countless hours over the years visiting with good friends. Wesley was a longtime member of First Christian Church of De Leon. His family was the greatest joy in his life and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving Wesley are his devoted wife, Darlene Mathis; sons, James Wesley Mathis and wife, Terri, and Jeffrey Gregg Mathis; grandchildren, Rickey Don Sumner, Holden Gregg Mathis, Landen Anderson Mathis, and Gracyn Kaye Mathis; sister, Mary Murphy and husband, Jack; nephew, Clint Murphy; great-nieces, Kelli Murphy and Ashley Murphy; and other extended family. Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruby Mathis; and nephew, Michael Wayne Murphy.

Memorial services celebrating Wesley's life were held Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at De Leon First Baptist Church with Minister Jim Farley and Minister Dan Burlison officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to De Leon First Christian Church at 201 E.
