William Gene Barnard, 80, of Comanche, passed away September 2, 2020, in Ft. Worth. He was born to Hugh William Barnard and Opal Cleere Barnard on the Cleere homestead in Comanche County January 6, 1940, where he lived until his passing. Gene married Frances Flynn August 10, 1979 and she preceded Gene in July of 2020.

Gene retired from truck driving after many decades. He enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time outdoors. He loved his family and cherished all the time he was able to spend with them. Gene and Frances built their home on the Cleere family land and enjoyed that home for eighteen years. They loved having their family gather there for family functions and holidays. Both he and Frances will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved them.

Surviving Gene are his children, Melody (Brian) Fisher and son, William Barnard, Jr.; step-children, Stehlin (Jaide) Flynn, Shari Flynn, Shareese (Tommy) Cleere, and Shawn (Marnie) Flynn; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy (Terry) Kelly; step-sister, Ann Kendall; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; father, Hugh Barnard; mother, Opal Irene Edwards; step-father, Bill Edwards; and brother, Donald Barnard.

Funeral services celebrating Gene's life were held Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Fisher officiating. He was laid to rest beside Frances in Ebenezer Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be offered online at www.nowlinandersfh.com .
