Obituary

Steve Box was born March 29, 1960, in Monahans, Texas to William Sidney Box and Dora Laura Peevy Box. He was welcomed by two older brothers, Douglas Howard and David Hiram. He passed away December 9, 2016 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 56 years, 8 months and 9 days.

Steve, his mother and two brothers moved to De Leon in the summer of 1963 upon the passing of his father. Steve accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior as a little boy attending De Leon First Baptist Church and was baptized there also. He was a Cub Scout in De Leon and graduated from De Leon High School in 1978. Steve was in the high school band and played several instruments. He had a talent for music, and played and entertained with his musical ability. Steve joined the US Navy after high school and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence, CV-62. After his navy service, Steve moved to California, primarily to the Los Angeles area. He was employed in the technology field with a local school district in the La Habra, California area.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, William Sidney Box and Dora Laura Peevy Box; and nephew, William Bryan Box.

He is survived by his two brothers, Douglas Howard and wife, Lennetta, of McKinney, Texas, and David Hiram and wife, Rebecca, of Odessa, Texas with nephews, Derek Barron and wife, SunMi, of Plano, Texas, Daryl Sloan and wife, Tiffany, of The Woodlands, Texas, Damon Richard and wife, Shayna, of Homestead, Florida; nieces, Laura Christine Box Paoletti and husband, David, of Norfolk, Virginia and Rita Gayle Box Atkins and husband, Jay, of the US Territory of Guam. There is a host of grand-nephews, grand-nieces, cousins and extended family.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home, De Leon, with Daniel Burlison officiating. Interment will be in the Monahans Memorial Cemetery, Monahans, Texas where Steve's parents are buried. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Angels Nursing Health Center, 415 S. Union Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90017, (phone 213.484.0784, contact person is Myra Garcia, social director) or to De Leon First Baptist Church, 125 S. Houston Street, De Leon, Texas 76444, in memory of Steve.
