Obituary

William "Bill" Ray Campbell, 91, of Clifton, passed from this life December 13, 2021. He was born October 28, 1930, in Waco, Texas to Angus Baton Campbell and Willie Myrtle Campbell. Bill married his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Betty Locke, November 14, 1954, in De Leon.

William was born in Waco, but spent his entire youth in De Leon graduating with the class of 1949. He loved being a De Leon Bearcat while competing in all sports. After high school, Bill served four years in the United States Navy. He then enrolled in Hardin Simmons University and graduated in 1957. Bill worked nine years for the Abilene Reporter News. He then published the paper in Brownfield, Mexia, Irving, and Port Neches-Groves. Bill owned a print shop in Dallas for eleven years. He also worked a short time for the Zale Corporation before ultimately retiring in Clifton, Texas in 2000.

Bill was a true family man. He loved spending time with his loving family. He enjoyed traveling and trying new things. He was a dedicated fan to both the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns. He was a wonderful husband to Betty, a loving and an involved dad, a doting grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Diana Campbell; son, Scott Campbell; granddaughter, Cate Gruber; brother, Glen Campbell; nephews, Tony Campbell and Glen Campbell Jr.; nieces, Angie Williams, Maryanne Cottrell, Mary McClendon, and Teresa Campbell. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Baton and Willie Campbell; sisters, Faye Luke and Mary Nowlin; brother, George Campbell; and parents-in-law, Emmett Locke and Myrtle Upshaw-Locke.

Military graveside funeral services were held Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in De Leon Cemetery with Drew Ritchie officiating.
