Obituary

Zoe Winona Shoemaker, 87, passed from this life April 24, 2024, at her home. She was born February 20, 1937, in Desdemona, Texas to Robert L. Lewis and Grace Lane Lewis. Zoe married Bobby Joe Shoemaker June 5, 1953, in Comanche. He preceded her in death in 2013.

Zoe lived in the Desdemona and De Leon communities her entire life. She was a long time LVN and loved the opportunities working within the medical field offered her to help others in their time of need. She also helped her husband in his business Shoemaker Paint and Body as needed. Zoe enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, pulling weeds, quilting and crafting. She was a wonderful cook and loved to can. She enjoyed taking care of her many beloved pets and was a true Dallas Mavericks and Texas Rangers fan always. Zoe loved the Lord and was a Christian. Her greatest joy in life was her family. Her children and grandchildren brought her immense joy and her love for each of them was so evident. She was a cheerful and happy spirit and spread joy wherever she went. She will be missed beyond measure by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sons, Ricky Shoemaker and Stephen Shoemaker; daughters, Phyllis Shoemaker, Stephanie Kelly, and Janice Barefoot; grandchildren, Clinton Shoemaker, Corey Shoemaker, Brianna Shoemaker, Candice Grimes, Christina Ayers, Joseph Pratt, Andrew Banda, Jayda Taylor, Brad Taylor, Ashayla Taylor, and Daylon Barefoot; great-grandchildren, Levi Shoemaker, Zowie Shoemaker, Fallon Shoemaker, Tyler Gibbs, Toby Billman, Bodie Grimes and Kolton Grimes; brother, Joe Carrol Lewis and wife, Dodie; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Zoe was preceded by her husband, Bobby; son, Marty Shoemaker; parents, Robert and Grace Lewis; three brothers, Manford Lewis, Gary Lewis and Wesley Lewis; and sisters, Elaine Battenfield, Linda McClaren and June Plaunty.

Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, April 28, 2024, in De Leon Cemetery with Brother Bill Williams officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Jack Pierce, Brad Taylor, Corey Shoemaker, Stephen Shoemaker, Lupe Perez and Bill Williams.
