Obituary

Don Holdridge, 73, passed from this life January 20, 2026, at his home. He was born June 29, 1952, in Ft. Worth, Texas to Fred Holdridge and Merle Huddleson Holdridge. Don married his loving wife of forty years, Joni Hooks, April 26, 1985.

Don was raised in De Leon and graduated with the class of 1970. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas Permian Basin. He was a long-time convenience store manager for Kent Kwik and after retiring from that career in Odessa, he and Joni moved back home to De Leon in 2015. Don loved all things history. He loved to study all eras of history and was a dedicated board member of the De Leon Historical Society for many years. Don was a faithful Dallas Cowboy and Texas Ranger fan always. He enjoyed music and was active in the band and choir. Don was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a good neighbor, and a loyal friend to many. He will be missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Joni; daughters, Bernadette Thornton and husband, Matt, and Tori Marshall and husband, Rob; son, Derek Holdridge and wife Amanda; grandchildren, Abby Holdridge, Taylor Holdridge, Lily Marshall, Hayley Thornton, Freya Thornton, Jacob Holdridge and Kash Holdridge; two great-grandchildren; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside funeral services were held Monday, February, 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in De Leon Cemetery with Rev. Gary Turner officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to De Leon Historical Society (173 North Texas Street, De Leon 76444) in memory of Don.
